The FRS 102 online programme developed by Mercia is ideal for accountants trying to understand the key issues in implementing the new standard. There are 31 modules covering everything from agriculture to transitional issues to accounting for financial instruments.

Each module is broken down into four very manageable sections. The first section in each module provides the user with a high quality colour video of the overview of the module, usually of 4-5 minutes in length. This can then be developed in a more in depth study through a series of slides covering the subject matter in detail and also provides users with very useful practical examples. The third and fourth sections outline what are likely to be the most frequently asked questions that users are likely to pose during implementation and finally there is a nice short multiple choice series of questions to test whether or not the user has really understood the main points in each module.

I would thoroughly recommend this e learning programme as an extremely useful approach to getting to grips with implementing the new standard. It is a particularly useful tool for the busy accountant who can pick up a module in their own free time and decide after watching the overview video whether he/she feels it is applicable to their company and therefore needs to delve into more detail in the module.
