Andrew Burgess MA
Andrew has now clocked up over 40 years working in tax! Whilst that may seem a sad waste of a life, the experience gained in that period is an invaluable part of what Andrew brings to his role as a tax lecturer and consultant for Mercia. He served for 14 years in the Revenue including a period as district inspector of a large PAYE district and in his final post was officer in charge of what was then Solihull Special Office. He joined what was then Neville Russell in 1984 and became a tax partner the following year. In his 20 years in practice Andrew advised a wide range of clients as well as gaining a reputation as a speaker and writer who could explain complex tax issues in a straightforward way. In his time in the firm he served as National Tax partner as was responsible for all the firm’s tax publications. He also wrote five books on charity tax.
He joined Mercia in 2003 and has quickly become well respected as a tax lecturer. As well as contributing to regular tax updates, Andrew brings his particular expertise to bear on personal tax issues, capital taxes, investigations, employment tax and charities.
He is married to Christine and they live in Northamptonshire. They have three grown up children and now two grandchildren who have become very special to them. Andrew is a member of his local Baptist Church. He is investigating his ancestry and makes regular pilgrimages back to his native Boston to watch Boston United whom he has supported for even longer than he has worked in tax!
