Auditing in Uncertainty

The audit profession in the UK faces almost unprecedented turmoil in 2020 and beyond, whether due to external challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit, or to the increased scrutiny on the profession in the wake of high-profile corporate failures and audit scandals. This course outlines the current and impending challenges to audit planning, evidence-gathering and reporting from both technical and practical perspectives.

Content will include:

  • COVID-19: financial reporting and auditing issues, including:
    • accounting and auditing for government assistance
    • estimates including fair values
    • going concern and viability reporting
    • fraud and ethical risks
  • Post-Brexit guidance for auditors
  • The future of audit in the UK, including the Brydon Review

The course will include examples and case studies to illustrate the issues.
