Research and Development - What You Need to Know

The UK has a beneficial tax regime in respect of expenditure which is incurred on research and development (R&D).

There is a very advantageous regime for the exploitation of patents in the UK known as the patent box regime.

As you would expect, generous tax reliefs come with conditions to try and ensure that the reliefs are given for activities that the Government wishes to encourage.

This course goes through both the tax reductions which can be achieved and the conditions which need to be fulfilled. This will include the recent changes to the patent box regime which introduce the concept of the nexus.

From the beginning of 2018, the Government increased the RDEC percentage to 12%, therefore making R&D claims even more beneficial. The course goes through the RDEC rules.
